Museum History & Opening

The Historical Society, a local group of people who had completed the Choiceland history book entitled "Log Cabin Tales and Changing Trails", published in 1984, undertook the venture of preserving Choiceland and area history by establishing a museum  In May of 1993, a vacant house located at 107 Main Street was donated to the Historical Society for this purpose.

The Grand Opening of the museum was held in July of 1995.  Despite the renovations which included reshingling, the building continued to deteriorate, with the fear that the ceiling would fall in.  The ceiling did fall in but not before the contents were transferred to the newly acquired, vacant St. Mark's Lutheran Church, located at 201-1st Street East.  After several major renovations, a grand opening of the museum was held on August 20, 2016.

To further explore the museum, please visit the Choiceland Historical Museum's Facebook page where you will find many pictures and stories of interest, as well as up-to-date happenings.
