Building Permits

Permits & Licensing

Planning a project or installing a fire pit? Make sure you're permitted.
The Town of Choiceland requires permits for certain types of construction, renovations, and fire pit use. These permits help ensure safety, compliance with bylaws, and consideration for your neighbours.

When do I need a permit?

A building permit is required to erect, place, construct, alter, repair, renovate, or reconstruct a building within the Town of Choiceland.

This includes projects such as:

  • Additions

  • Decks

  • Basement renovations

  • Garages

  • New construction

  • Structural changes

  • General renovations

All permit applications and plan documents are available at the Town Office.

Fire pit permits

Permits are required for all permanent and portable fire pits in Choiceland.

Here’s how it works:

  • Pick up a permit application from the Town Office

  • Permits are a one-time application, unless the pit is moved or modified

  • Once submitted, the Fire Chief will inspect your fire pit

  • You must receive approval before using the fire pit

All pits—including portable ones—must be inspected prior to use.
Failure to follow these regulations may result in charges for unpermitted burning.
